Tips to Prepare Your Home for Overnight Guests
November 12, 2018With the holidays approaching, it’s time to start thinking about preparing your home for overnight guests you may be hosting in the coming weeks. You definitely want your guests to enjoy their stay with you, so follow these tips from Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA to up your hospitality game and make your home warm and welcoming for friends and loved ones.
- Clean up the house. The time around the holidays can be very hectic, but do your best to make sure the house is clean and tidy before guests arrive. Having company over can be excellent motivation for taking care of all the little things you’ve been putting off, like decluttering, making small household repairs and doing some redecorating.
- Provide extra pillows and blankets. Everyone’s comfort level is different, so it’s a good idea to have plenty of extra pillows and blankets available to help guests get comfortable. If your guest room (or other area where your guests will be sleeping) doesn’t have a ceiling fan, it’s a good idea to have a small, portable fan available for those who tend to get a little warm or need one to help them fall asleep.
- Prep the bathroom. It goes without saying that the bathroom your guests will be using should be spotless, but it should also be well-stocked with clean towels and washcloths, plenty of toilet paper, and a few extra toiletries in case something is forgotten. These could include small or travel-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner, lotion, toothpaste and extra toothbrushes.
- Supply some entertainment. While you likely want to have some special outings planned while your guests are in town, it’s also important to make sure they have something to do during their downtime at home. A small stack of magazines and a couple best-sellers will do the trick for your adult guests, while having a few board games and coloring books on hand will take care of the needs of younger guests.
