Next up in our window series is the gliding window, also known as a sliding window. Gliding windows from Renewal by Andersen® of Northeast PA are an exceptional choice for a variety of reasons.
How It Works
A gliding window is composed of two vertical planes of glass, also known as sashes, that slide parallel to each other along a track. The dual monorail system and weatherstripping help to keep the elements out, no matter the weather. An added benefit is that the sashes can be opened at the same time.
By sliding both sashes to the middle, air can flow in on both sides of the window and provide increased ventilation. In addition, there are no worries of having to drag out a ladder to clean them. Lift-out sashes make it a breeze to clean the windows from the inside.
Gliding windows are a great replacement window option for a four-season room, such as a sunroom or enclosed porch. The streamlined profile provides a lot of glass visibility – the most of any operable window style – which allows plenty of light and an unobstructed view. Also, the thin profile works well for spots where you don’t want a protruding window style, such as near areas with frequent foot traffic or overlooking decks or walkways.
Like Renewal by Andersen’s other windows, gliding windows are made of composite Fibrex® material. Mortise-and-tenon joints and Fibrex’s rigid structure and solid construction combine to produce a strong product that can support large gliding windows, allowing them to hold up structurally and slide easily. And, of course, one of the best benefits is that there’s no more scraping and painting!
