Understanding Online Reviews, Part 1: How They Work
July 12, 2016If you’ve considered purchasing replacement windows in Allentown and have done some shopping around, chances are you have come across customer reviews posted on various business websites. Online reviews can be extremely helpful, but it’s important to understand how they work to determine if a review is legitimate.
How Online Reviews Work
Ideally, online customer reviews are written by consumers who have used a certain product or service or frequented a particular business. For sites that rate a wide variety of businesses, there are general guidelines you are asked to follow when reviewing, but no restrictions on who can write a review. Websites for individual businesses are a little different. Generally, anyone can read reviews of products and services, but some sites require you to create and log into an online account before you can leave a review of your own.
The Importance of Online Reviews
While word-of-mouth is still important, online reviews can make a huge impact on a consumer’s decision-making process when researching a product, service or business. According to a survey from Bright Local, nearly nine in 10 consumers have read online reviews to determine the quality of a local business, and 39% do so on a regular basis.
Fake reviews have become a big problem for businesses as well as consumers. However, you won’t have to worry about that with Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA.
