Easy Tips for Enhancing Energy Efficiency in the Summer, Part 1

June 09, 2017

Summer Energy EfficiencyAir conditioners consume huge amounts of electricity, and the resulting energy bills can be astronomical. Fortunately, there are many simple ways to increase the energy efficiency of your home. Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA looks forward to sharing energy-saving tips with you throughout the summer!

  • Invest in replacement windows. Installing energy-efficient replacement windows from Renewal by Andersen will pay off in the long run with lower energy bills throughout the year. We use the best of cutting-edge technology, such as our PassiveSun® glass and HeatLock® coating, to ensure our windows are as energy-efficient as possible. It’s no wonder we won the 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award!
  • Take advantage of natural ventilation. As the weather permits, opening your windows and letting in the cool night air is a great way to lower the temperature of your home at night. And best of all, it’s free! Just don’t forget to turn off the air conditioner first, and make sure the outside temperature is at a comfortable level, preferably 70℉ or lower.
  • Close curtains and blinds during the day. You should always shut your windows, lower blinds, and close the curtains as soon as you wake up. This will trap cooler air inside and block the heat from the sun’s rays. If you prefer to leave your window treatments open to take advantage of the natural light, make sure that your windows have our Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass. This innovation blocks 95% of the harsh UV rays that will not only heat up the room, but also damage flooring, furniture, and other furnishings.
  • Use ceiling fans wisely. Despite popular belief, ceiling fans cool people, not rooms. They do this by circulating air throughout a room, creating a draft that causes a wind chill effect. When used properly, ceiling fans can allow you to raise the temperature on your thermostat by as much as 4℉ without causing any perceivable difference in comfort. By using ceiling fans and following the preceding tips, you may even be able to delay turning on your air conditioner for the season.
