Window warranties show a manufacturer’s confidence in the quality of their windows. If your new window fails to perform well or has factory defects, its warranty allows you to have the unit fixed or replaced without additional expense.

When shopping for replacement windows, make sure to check the following details.

Transferability

If you plan on selling your home, make sure your windows come with a transferrable warranty. This type of warranty ensures that the windows will still have coverage even if the owner of the property changes. This is an appealing selling point for homebuyers, so a transferable window warranty usually helps increase a property’s value.

Proration

A prorated warranty means that the coverage will diminish as the window ages. In general, warranties for windows and patio doors include full coverage for the first 10 to 20 years. But beyond this period, proration is implemented. Make sure to check your window warranty for specific details on proration.

Labor & Installation

Manufacturers don’t cover workmanship errors, and they will only honor their warranties if qualified contractors installed the windows. Meanwhile, some window installation contractors offer labor and installation warranties that cover issues caused by faulty installation. Their warranties typically last one to two years after installation.

Coverage Period

Window warranties vary widely, and low-quality windows may include coverage of only a few years. Renewal by Andersen is proud to offer a 20-year fully transferable limited warranty on our windows. 20-year limited warranty on glass and Fibrex® material, a five-year limited warranty on installation and a 10-year limited warranty on components other than glass. It’s why we call it the Nation’s Best Warranty Coverage!

If you’re looking for the best replacement doors and windows for your home, you can always count on Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA to help with your project. We ensure top-notch workmanship and superior customer service every time. Call us at (610) 849-2800 or fill out our contact form to schedule a consultation.

Many homeowners choose vinyl windows because they’re affordable and easily replaceable. However, they deteriorate over time due to various reasons. Learn more about the top issues that are commonly encountered with vinyl windows and the best alternative to this type of window.

Common Problems With Vinyl Windows

Seal Failure

Double-pane and double-glazed windows have rubber seals to prevent humidity from infiltrating your home. Vinyl windows have the highest likelihood of broken seals within the first three years of being installed.

Expansion & Contraction

Vinyl replacement windows expand and contract like wood. This property contributes to broken rubber seals that cause air infiltration and poor insulation. Consistent expansion and contraction due to fluctuating temperatures can also cause cracks in vinyl frames.

Lack of Strength & Density

Vinyl windows lack strength and density because manufacturers use the minimum amount of material. Over time, vinyl frames can loosen due to expansion and contraction, which then leads to insulation problems and possible window damage.

Loss of Glass Area

Vinyl window frames with more density may have reduced glass area. This is usually done to improve the strength and durability of the frame. However, in this case, the aesthetics of the windows suffer and the view offered by the window becomes smaller due to thicker frames.

Poor Warranty Coverage

Some vinyl window manufacturers only issue warranties of 10 to 15 years, and they may only cover expenses amounting to the window’s actual cash value during that time.

Windows Made From Our Exclusive Fibrex® Material: The Best Alternative to Vinyl Windows

Renewal by Andersen windows are an excellent alternative to standard vinyl windows. The Fibrex® material frames contain wood fiber and recycled thermoplastic vinyl, and prevent thermal transfer more effectively than aluminum. Our windows also have lower expansion and contraction rates than vinyl, and they don’t sacrifice glass area for performance. If you’re interested in learning more, Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA is always ready to discuss your options. We guarantee the best results for your replacement door and/or window project. Call us at (610) 849-2800 or fill out our contact form to schedule a consultation. We serve homeowners in Allentown and other nearby areas.

When it comes to window style and design, there are more things to consider than just the glass and the trim. The windows also should be aesthetically pleasing and reflect your home’s architectural style. Choosing the right grille pattern is a vital part of making sure this happens.

Grille Patterns to Consider

In this blog, we explore four of the top grille patterns you may want to consider for your replacement windows and describe their features to help you find the grille pattern that works best with your home’s style.

Farmhouse

The clean, sleek lines of farmhouse-style grilles enable them to mesh seamlessly with the windows in a farmhouse-style home. They feature two panes of glass separated by a muntin on both the top and bottom sashes of double-hung windows. As a result, when the window is closed, you have a four-pane window. Some homeowners prefer the two-over-one look, with a single grille on the top sash and nothing on the bottom.

Colonial

If you’ve ever seen a Colonial home, you know the style is all about symmetry — rectangular shape, same number of windows on both sides of the entrance and on the first and second stories. Usually, the grids on Colonial windows are the same on both sashes. These grilles generally feature either six-over-six or nine-over-nine grid patterns. This style works well with Cape Cod and Colonial-style homes.

Prairie

This is a popular design that’s typically paired with casement windows. In this grid pattern, muntins run along the edge of the windows, with small square panes in each corner. This creates a distinctive grille style that leaves a large area of glass in the center of the window clear and unobstructed.

Custom

Perhaps you have an idea for an interesting grille pattern, or maybe you want a particular pattern to create authenticity in a historic home. Whatever the case, you can customize grilles to express your style and enhance your home’s appearance.

Find Out Which Grille Pattern Is Right for You

These are just a few of the different types of grille patterns available from Renewal by Andersen. No matter which style you choose, it will offer long-lasting performance with few maintenance requirements, as well as durable construction and design. Possible options include interior wood, between-the-glass and full divided light grille types. To set up a consultation so we can help you determine which grille style works best with your windows and your home’s architecture, give Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA a call at 610-798-1708 or reach out online.

If you want your home to stand out from its neighbors, installing a bay or bow projection window is an excellent way to achieve this. Not only will the window add visual interest to your home’s exterior, it will also boost curb appeal, expand your view and provide more functional living area.

If you’ve started researching replacement window options, you may have already heard about bay and bow windows. It’s important to fully understand their differences to choose the style that will work best for your home. In this post, Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA explores the benefits of each window style to help you choose the one that works best for you.

Bay Windows

A bay window is made up of three or more windows that project out from the wall, with four projection angles up to a 90-degree box bay. There are a few different window styles that can be used in this configuration, but double-hung and casement windows are the most common. For example, our Certified Master Installers can install a fixed picture window flanked by two double-hung windows to provide you with an expansive view and additional floor area.

Bow Windows

Bow windows are similar to bay windows, with a graceful and elegant projection. Made up of four or more units, bow windows are generally larger than bay windows, with more glass area because they curve rather than meeting at angles. Bow windows are perfect for letting in more natural light to help your room look bigger and brighter, and with the additional space, you can create a cozy reading nook by adding a comfortable bench seat or add storage. Typically, the same window styles used for bay windows are used for bow windows—namely, picture, casement, double-hung and awning windows.

Tap Our Top Design Team for Your Next Project

When designing your window, you can choose from various grille styles, colors and hardware to complement your home’s architecture and make your bay or bow window unique. If you need assistance creating the perfect window configuration, our design team would love to help.
In this blog, we cover four of the top advantages you’ll enjoy when you purchase energy-efficient replacement windows and doors from Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA.

Greater Savings & Less Energy Loss

Old, outdated windows are not energy-efficient. In fact, they generally account for a significant percentage of the energy lost from your home. When you replace damaged, inefficient windows with new replacement windows from Renewal by Andersen, you’ll immediately start saving money on your energy bills. This is because the combination of our exclusive Fibrex® material, High-Performance Low-E4® glass and expert installation results in windows with excellent National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) ratings.

Reduced Energy Usage

According to Green Seal, if all windows in the U.S. were as energy-efficient as those made by Andersen Windows, our parent company, we could save up to 2.5 percent on annual U.S. energy consumption. That’s an estimated 200 gallons of oil for every household in the country!

Sustainability

Renewal by Andersen follows a sustainable approach to window replacement, which is what makes us one of the top window companies around. Here are a few facts about our company.

Our frames and sashes made of Fibrex® material contain 40% reclaimed wood fiber by weight – much of which comes from Andersen Corporation’s wood window manufacturing process.

Renewal by Andersen windows have achieved the highest SCS Global Services-certified recycled content values for windows.

Renewal by Andersen and Andersen Corporation were the first window companies to receive the SCS Global Services Indoor Advantage Gold certification. This certification is the most rigorous indoor air emission standard in the United States and meets California Section 01350 Specifications.

Positive Long-Term Environmental Impact

Poorly constructed, low-quality windows often have to be removed prematurely – after a mere 10 years of service. Where do these windows end up? If you said the landfill, you guessed right. Construction material is a major source of landfill waste in the United States. By choosing energy-efficient replacement windows from Renewal by Andersen, you’ll have a product that lasts for decades. In addition, our products are backed by one of the strongest, fully transferable limited warranties in the business. This means years of cost savings for you and less landfill waste for the planet.

Although most homeowners don’t think of winter as ideal for installing replacement windows, it can actually be a great time to replace windows that are outdated and drafty. Fortunately, with Renewal by Andersen’s winter installation system, our experts can replace your windows with ease at any point in the season. The weather is no obstacle!

Our Winter Installation System

Windows that don’t seal correctly can send energy bills skyrocketing and negatively affect your comfort all winter. While it may seem counter-productive to replace your windows in the winter, Renewal by Andersen’s exclusive winter installation system ensures that the job will be done properly and your home will receive minimal exposure to the elements. To achieve this, our expert installers block off each room they’re working in, installing the windows one at a time to limit heat loss.

The Importance of Teamwork

Homeowners are amazed at how quickly our installers can remove an old window and put in the new one – on average, in less than five minutes! The reason this process works so seamlessly is because our crews work in pairs, with one on the inside of the house and one working from the outside. This ensures that the windows are replaced quickly and efficiently, with minimal heat loss, and cuts down on the mess by keeping mud and snow outside where they belong – instead of being tracked into the house on the installers’ boots.

With Renewal by Andersen’s extensive experience in winter installation, you can rest easy knowing that your windows will be properly replaced in as little as one day. This will allow you to spend the rest of your winter in the comfort of a snug, comfortable, draft-free home!

Learn More About Winter Window Installation

In the summer, heat transfer (the movement of heat from hot areas to cool areas) can have a huge effect on the temperature of your home. This can occur both when the sun shines directly on your windows and as heat radiates off the hard surfaces outside your house, like the driveway and sidewalk. To combat heat transfer, window manufacturers have developed specialized coatings known as Low-E (Low-Emissivity) coatings.

The Innovation of HeatLock Glass

Renewal by Andersen offers a superior insulated glass option known as HeatLock. This glass has an additional Low-E coating applied to the interior surface of the insulating glass unit. In the winter, HeatLock works by reflecting radiant heat from the room back into it before it can escape through the glass. In the summer, HeatLock reflects outside heat and light from the sun, keeping your home cooler.

Untreated glass, on the other hand, lets in heat energy, which makes it difficult to control indoor temperatures and lower energy costs. While the coating does slightly change the appearance of windows and doors (which is why we recommend not mixing units with and without HeatLock coating), the coating is so thin that you can see through the glass clearly.

Is HeatLock Glass Available on All Renewal by Andersen® Windows?

The HeatLock coating cannot be field-applied to existing windows or patio doors or to textured/patterned glass. However, it is available on a wide variety of Andersen windows and patio doors. And you can still enhance your windows with our grille options, as they’re not affected by the presence of HeatLock coating. Your design consultant can help you determine the best options for adding HeatLock glass to your home.

Choose HeatLock Glass for Superior Energy Efficiency

At Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA, we’re committed to helping keep your home comfortable and energy-efficient year-round. To learn more about the various features of HeatLock insulating glass, give us a call today at 610-798-1708 or submit our online contact form.

In this blog, we take a look at the benefits and distinctive features of one of our unique replacement window options, the specialty window.

How They Work

Specialty windows are actually among the most efficient units Renewal by Andersen offers because they are fixed, meaning they don’t open. The main purpose of a specialty window is to accent a particular architectural feature of your home. It can be paired with any of our operable windows, such as a casement or double-hung window. This gives you the option of having a venting window to bring fresh air into your home, but still allows you to make a statement with the unique shape and style of a specialty window.

Distinctive Variety

As with all of our Renewal by Andersen® replacement windows, our specialty windows come in a wide array of colors. If desired, you can even stain or paint our real wood frames on the interior to match your existing trim and woodwork. In addition, our specialty window styles are available in many different sizes, with 13 shapes to choose from.

For example, you could use the elegant curves of an arched or half-round window to soften the sharp angles of a traditional rectangular window or utilize a trapezoid shape that follows the line of a raised wood plank ceiling. With custom-patterned grilles and a variety of hardware available, too, you can mix and match different shapes, styles and accessories to achieve the perfect look for your home.

Create Your Own

At Renewal by Andersen, we do our best to make our customers’ dreams a reality, so let your creative juices flow! Our design specialists are also available to provide inspiration. All of our windows are made using our exclusive Fibrex® material, which is extremely strong and low-maintenance, so you’ll have beautiful, worry-free windows that last.

Is your living or dining room lacking in aesthetic appeal? If so, a great way to add elegance, bring in more natural light and create extra space is with the addition of a beautiful Renewal by Andersen® bow window. Read on to learn more about this window style.

How They Work

A bow window is comprised of four or more windows that project out from the exterior of a house to create a graceful curve. The more windows you incorporate, the more light and interior space you’ll add to your home. Though casement windows are commonly used in a bow window because they can be opened for ventilation, some of the windows in the configuration can be stationary. Bow windows from Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA are less angular than bay windows, with multiple windows combining to form a beautiful arch that adds to the aesthetic value of a home. Learn more about bay windows.

The Perfect Spot

Along with making a dramatic architectural statement, a bow window forms an alcove that’s perfect for a variety of different uses, such as a window seat. Just add a cushion or some throw pillows to create a cozy spot to read or enjoy the view. It can also be a great place to display special pictures or home décor items.

Customize With Color & Detail

Renewal by Andersen bow windows are available in several different color options. Grilles can be added for more detail or omitted for an unobstructed view. Our energy-efficient Fibrex® windows with High-Performance Low-E4® glass options allow you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while at the same time keeping out the summer heat.

As with all the window styles we offer, bay windows have their own uniquely attractive features. Elegant Renewal by Andersen® bay windows are ideal for taking advantage of spectacular views or gaining a little extra space.

How They Work

A bay window combines three windows set at angles that together extend out from the exterior wall for a striking architectural addition to any home. Usually, the center window is fixed with two flanking windows that are usually either casement or double-hung windows of varying widths. Bay windows from Renewal by Andersen of Northeast PA don’t need any kind of bracing system to support them because they’re anchored from the top.

Beauty & Functionality

One of the best features of a bay window is that it increases the space in your home because of the way it projects out from the house. This creates a gorgeous exterior focal point that increases curb appeal while giving you additional interior space. The added space can be used for a variety of functions. For instance, it makes the perfect place to display family photos or home décor. Add a seat, and it’s the perfect spot for a reading nook. Alternatively, you could simply bask in the extra sunlight it allows into your home. Your pets will love it for this reason, too!

Many Options to Choose From

Renewal by Andersen offers a variety of options when it comes to updating your home with a bay window. You can pick the color combination, style and roofing options that work best for your home and even select how far the window extends from your home’s exterior. From design, to manufacturing, to installation – every step in the process creates a well-insulated, weathertight that keeps out moisture and drafts, so you can enjoy your beautiful bay window for years to come. A full product and installation warranty adds even greater peace of mind.
