Q: How are Renewal by Andersen® and Andersen® windows different?
A: Renewal by Andersen is the replacement window division of Andersen Corporation. Andersen produces windows specifically for the new construction market, mostly vinyl-clad wood windows. The Renewal division makes custom-sized windows of Fibrex® composite material, and features a full warranty to cover both the window and the installation.
Q: What is Fibrex®?
A: Fibrex® is a patented wood fiber and thermoplastic composite produced exclusively by Andersen. It combines the strength and stability of wood with the low-maintenance features of vinyl to create an exceptional material for framing. This revolutionary material performs better than wood, aluminum and fiberglass, and especially well when compared to vinyl, yet it requires almost no maintenance.
Q: Why does a window’s thermal expansion matter?
A: Thermal expansion is a change in a material’s volume in response to a change in temperature. The excessive fluctuations in temperature common in the Northeast can lead to bowing or warping of the window frame. Vinyl is very susceptible to thermal expansion, while Fibrex® and wood are not.
Q: What kind of glass is included in Renewal windows?
A: Renewal windows feature Low-E (low emissive) energy-efficient glass manufactured with microscopic metallic coatings to allow natural light to pass through, while blocking heat and harmful UV rays. Our High-Performance™ Low E-4® glass is the most energy-efficient glass option available. High-Performance Low E-4 Smart Sun glass has been rated 70% more efficient in summer and 45% more energy-efficient in winter. SmartSun glass also blocks 95% of harmful UV radiation which causes fading of carpet, furniture, drapery and artwork.
